Hollywood news banter: Is ‘Game of Thrones’ a category killer?

Hosted by

Emmy nomination voting is open. ‘Game of Thrones’ is considered a shoo-in for Best Drama Series--so much so that other series like ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ and ‘Stranger Things’ are debuting this summer, so as not to have to compete against the HBO megahit. • And a super competitive category--Best Limited Series--was on life support just a few years ago. Now, it’s jam packed with possible contenders--including Netflix’s ‘When They See Us,’ HBO’s ‘Chernobyl’ and FX’s ‘Fosse/Verdon.’
  • In Europe, some awkward alliances are forming between broadcasters from different countries as they come together in an attempt to do battle with Netflix and other forthcoming global streamers.
