Pilot season wisdom, via Twitter, from Gloria Calderón Kellett: “This is the gig.”

Hosted by

TV writer-producer Gloria Calderón Kellett visited us on The Business before--in 2017 she told us all about co-creating, with Mike Royce, a re-imagined version of Norman Lear’s classic mid-70s sitcom ‘One Day at a Time’ for Netflix.

The new version draws heavily on Calderón Kellett’s own Cuban American background. Justina Machado plays Penelope Alvarez--a nurse, veteran and single mom raising two kids in LA’s Echo Park, and sharing close quarters with her mom, Lydia, played by Rita Moreno.

With the third season of her show having just dropped on Netflix, Calderón Kellett tried to launch another program, this time for broadcast TV. Trying to shoot the rapids of pilot season is a nerve-wracking exercise, and Calderón Kellett decided to share the experience by tweeting--sharing her hopes and sorrows, and offering some advice along the way.

Pilot season may be brutal but we decided to give Calderón Kellett a green light--to share some of her tweets about the highs and lows of the game.
