Todd Edwards –“Essential Edits”
New Jersey-bred, LA-based UK Garage pioneer Todd Edwards had a banner year in 2013. From guesting on Daft Punk’s Grammy nominated “Random Access Memories“ album to reestablishing himself one of the most in-demand remixers in dance music, the level of public interest in Edwards’ work has never been higher.
This past summer Todd “The God” was commissioned by the BBC to do an Essential Mix.
The mix, which can be heard in its entirety here, was choc full of exclusive edits and remixes he made specifically for the Essential Mix.
This week, Edwards released those edits via twitter in a handy zip file for his fans and the world is now a better place.
My new album will be out in 2014; I can’t wait until you get to hear it. Until then, here are my Essential edits: http://t.co/4L49mm5q3a

Flying Lotus — Ideas + Drafts + Loops This week, Flying Lotus announced that the follow up to his 2012 album, “Until The Quiet Comes“, will be arriving some time in 2014. In the meantime, FlyLo laced us his own zip file entitled ideas+drafts+loops.

The zip file contains 24 tracks, most of it previously unreleased (and featuring contributions from the likes of MF Doom, Earl Sweatshirt and DJ Mehdi), but my personal favorite of the lot is the buzzsaw boogie funk banger, “Stonecutter“, which came out on the Grand Theft Auto V soundtrack that Flying Lotus oversaw earlier this year.
Q-Tip + Busta Rhymes Mixtape
Finally, I leave you with what is perhaps my favorite mixtape of the year, courtesy of Q-Tip and Busta Rhymes.
A big chunk of the mixtape is culled from the pair’s collaborations throughout their 25 year association with a few new tracks sprinkled in (including the incredible “Thank You” featuring Lil Wayne and Kanye West).
Tip and Bussa Bus are in prime form throughout the mixtape and, let me just say, if there was one mixtape I had to recommend to you this year, this would be it.
