Hiss Golden Messenger Releases Two New Singles

Written by

Hiss Golden Messenger - the dependable indie folk project led by M.C. Taylor - has shared two new tracks today ("Watching the Wires" and "Everybody Needs Somebody"), both featuring Amelia Meath (Sylvan Esso, Mountain Man) on backing vocals.

M.C Taylor said this about the new releases:

I wrote “Watching the Wires” and “Everybody Needs Somebody” in the basement of a house just outside of Portland, Maine, last summer. 2018 was a hard year—for myself and, as it turns out, most people that I know—and I was thinking a lot at that time about how to cope with what felt like an unnameable existential crisis: Run for the hills, or hug the nearest stranger? As it turns out, I’ve been doing a bit of both. Singing these songs has been helpful to me.

"Everybody Needs Somebody" sounds like a 'southern sunset porch jam' (in the best way possible); a slinky slowburn, with a positive and melodic refrain.

"Watching the Wires" is more direct than its counterpart. A wiry guitar line pervades throughout, but gives way to an anthemic lift c/o Taylor's chorus.

No word yet on a proper album release for 2019 but both singles are available via Merge Records.

Hiss and co will hit the road this spring, but us West Coast denizens need to hold tight for show announcements on our side of the map.
