Music For Your Weekend feat. Devendra Banhart, Raphael Saadiq, and Bombay Bicycle Club

Written by

Fall is – basically - here and as the weather and daylight changes (not so much for us in LA but we can pretend) so do the sweet sounds we choose to soundtrack our weekends with. Today we bring you brand new music in the key of autumn. Featuring some country roots, neo-soul, and jangly indie pop of all sorts, perfect for September.

Devendra Banhart – “Kantori Ongaku”

The Texas born, Venezuela-raised, singer-songwriter Devendra Banhart is finally back with new music! Today marks the release of his latest album Ma on Nonesuch. Earlier this summer, the first single “Kantori Ongaku,” came out of left field to warm our hearts and ears. “Kantori Ongaku” translates to “Country Music” in Japanese and it’s said to be a tribute to Haruomi Hosono, who is considered to be one of Japan’s most influential pop musicians. There’s no doubt that we’ve been eagerly awaiting Banhart’s 13-song offering with great anticipation.

Today we finally get to hear it all! Enjoy this video for the single, where hair plays a strange protagonist.

Raphael Saadiq – “So Ready”

From the sexy, “I’m Feeling Love” to the gospel/blues anthem, “Belongs to God” and the catchy off-kilter single “So Ready,” Raphael Saadiq’s newest album Jimmy Lee is ever so funky. At first listen, the single “So Ready” was casually intriguing and a bit off-putting at the same time… but then I found myself humming the chorus for like a day and a half.

Turns out that producing emotional and heartfelt lyrics, along with crafting funky grooves is still Saadiq’s road to travel. And I ain’t mad at that, not one bit.

Bombay Bicycle Club – “Eat, Sleep, Wake (Nothing But You)”

The new video for Bombay Bicycle Club’s “Eat, Sleep, Wake (Nothing But You)” opens with scenes of post-apocalyptic Britain. The cause? Bombay Bicycle Club’s indefinite hiatus from 2016. Bit of a stretch, but there’s definitely some truth in there. Their large fan base (myself included), have been missing this band a great deal.

The new single is a great appetizer, for the announcement of a new album that’s due out Jan 17th, 2020… I cannot wait for the main course! I need to focus and eat, sleep, and wake in January 2020 so I can hear this musical nugget.

Enjoy your weekend!
