Shelf Life: Dutch Uncles, Reigning Sound, The History of Apple Pie

Dutch Uncles – “In N Out” (Memphis Industries)

UK quintet Dutch Uncles have quickly become a favorite of mine with their dynamic sound which recalls both the best of 70s progressive rock and 80s new wave.

Their latest single (from a forthcoming album due in Feb ’15) might have an extra unintended meaning for fans of a certain West Coast burger chain…

Reigning Sound – Shattered (Merge)

Garage rock vet Greg Cartwright’s longtime project Reigning Sound’s latest album is one I came to a bit late, but when it is this good, the old saying “better late than never” absolutely applies.

This track is a bit more of a ballad than their typical sound, but the whole record is a winner.

The History of Apple Pie – Feel Something (Marshall Teller Records)

The sophomore album from this UK band has enough classic shoegazer flavors in their sonic stew – buzzing guitars; dreamy female vocals; big, driving drums, etc. – that fans of bands like Lush, Curve and the recently reformed Ride should find something to like here.
