Barry Can’t Swim: KCRW Live from HQ

Intimate performances, fresh sounds, and candid conversations with a view.

Scottish DJ and producer Barry Can’t Swim found an instantaneous connection with house music devotees from the moment he uploaded his early concoctions to Soundcloud. His knack for organic composition blending his own (considerable) piano skills with propulsive beats and genre-agnostic samples proves again and again to be an intoxicating combination.

After wowing the crowd during his Coachella performances on Sunday nights in the Gobi tent, Barry gives us a peek into his much-hyped stage show. Live from the Annenberg Performance studio, Barry and his band — Jim Molyneux (drums) and Hannah Jacobs (keys) — deliver euphoric renditions of tracks from his 2023 debut LP When Will We Land?. Watch the video at the top of this page for the sweet, sweet sounds of “How It Feels,” “Always Get Through To You,” “Dance of the Crab,” and “Sunsleeper” from the album. Plus, jams from his 2022 EP More Content — “God Is The Space Between Us” and “Can We Still Be Friends?” And watch the interview vid below where he breaks down the burgeoning Edinburgh dance music scene, learning piano, and the art of American couch surfing, in conversation with KCRW’s SiLVA.
