We celebrate legendary composer Ryuichi Sakamoto through his solo work, early band Yellow Magic Orchestra, and the many (many) artists who’ve sampled him.Wildly innovative Japanese composer, producer, and pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto died recently at the age of 71 after a years-long battle with cancer. His loss is deeply felt throughout the music community, and we’re dedicating the majority of this edition of MBE to him. From his endeavors to embed electronic music into the cultural consciousness, to the many (many) artists who’ve sampled his groundbreaking work over the years, we’re getting into all of it.
