MBE Nov. 16: Stromae: KCRW Live From HQ, global grooves, and tamales!

Special guest Stromae gets equal parts silly and deep in conversation with Morning Becomes Eclectic host Anthony Valadez. Photo by Larry Hirshowitz.

From multi-lingual hits to wordless vibes — today’s MBE features grooves from around the globe, served piping hot. And the Globe-trotting continues as Belgian-Rwandan megastar Stromae brings his trademark suavity, smooth electro sounds, and deep vulnerability to KCRW Live From HQ (peep the video here).

Elsewhere in the show we’ll explore the funky terrain of hip-hop instrumentals with Adrian Quesada’s latest, “Rise Of The Have-Nots,” from his forthcoming album “Jaguar Sound” (due Nov. 18 via ATO). Plus, songs inspired by the beauty of feeling the music through whatever language barriers might be present — A couple to keep your ears perked for are Maha of Cairo delivering “Orkos” (courtesy of the always reliable Habibi Funk record label), and “Todai” from Tokyo-based, electro-lounge two-piece BIALYSTOCKS.

And just try keeping your feet still when we break out the cumbia classic “Escándalo” from iconic Colombian group La Sonora Dinamita. Catch them performing alongside Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles, Cello Azul, DJ Don French, Aztec Dancers, and other incredible acts at the Long Beach International Tamale Festival. It’s going down on Sunday, Dec. 4, hosted by our very own Raul Campos. We have 5 pairs of family pack tickets to give away - enter here!
