FROM THIS EPISODE

Fiction writer Bonnie Nadzam and environmental philosopher, Dale Jamieson, worked together to write Love in the Anthropocene (OR Books), a collection of five short stories that describe a very near future in which nature as we know it no longer exists.  While both Nadzam and Jamieson acknowledge that nature will never be completely absent, they show how deeply it will be transformed by human domination.  By holding onto our accustomed ways of life, we create what the authors call the "banality of climate change" – where those who can, go to grotesque lengths to recreate experiences that were once basic to our lives –  like fly fishing in the great outdoors.
