California became a part of the United States in 1850. And ever since, there have been hundreds of proposals for it to secede from the union or divide it into smaller states. A new exhibition from artist Cole Sternberg called FREESTATE at the El Segundo Museum of Art (ESMoA) looks at the idea of California’s secession.
