Tom Wolfe, famed author of classics like “The Right Stuff” and “The Bonfire of the Vanities” died Monday. He was 88. Wolfe began as a reporter, but it was his work as a magazine writer in the 1960s that solidified his status as a national trendsetter. He was among the first to combine the skills of hard reporting with the emotional impact of novels -- changing non-fiction writing forever.
