‘Little Woods’ explores the challenges facing women in rural America

Stories about women by women are still very rare onscreen. Just apply the Bechdel Test to recent releases and see how few pass. But even more scarce are stories about women of color living in rural America. This makes the new film, ‘Little Woods,’ all the more unique. It’s set in a fracking boom town in North Dakota, where two sisters struggle with homelessness, pervasive drug culture and an unplanned pregnancy. ‘Little Woods’ stars Tessa Thompson and Lily James.
