Americans looking for a break in the debt-ceiling impasse didn't see it last night. In a prime-time speech from the White House, President Obama put the blame squarely on Republicans who are "insisting on a cuts-only approach."

From Capitol Hill, Republican House Speaker John Boehner said he "made a sincere effort to work with the President" for what he calls "Cut, Cap and Balance," but that "even when we thought we might be close on an agreement, the President's demands changed."
