Every week Good Food visits the Wednesday Santa Monica Farmers’ Market and brings the latest news from farmers and chefs.

This week market manager Laura Avery visits Carlsbad Aquafarm, a sustainable aquaculture of Mediterranean Blue Mussels, Pacific Oysters and Ogo. Their fish can be found at Whole Foods, Sprouts Market, and Santa Monica Seafood.

What You Should Buy This Weekend At the Farmers’ Market

– Cherriums, Tomcord grapes and Olympic Asian pears from Murray Family Farms in Bakersfield. The cherriums taste like a plum, but with a cherry-like finish.

– Blue Lake green beans,Italian Wax beans and Haricot Vert beans from Harry’s Berries in Oxnard. The tender and sweet beans will snap readily when bent.

– Tomatillo tomatoes, Golden Dorcet apples and softneck garlic varieties from Windrose Farm in San Luis Obispo. Try chopping or blending the tomatillos for a homemade salsa verde.

– Blenheim apricots and Burgundy plums from Cirone Farms in San Luis Obispo. Watch farmer Mike Cirone explain how his dry farmed orchard survives on rainfall and underground water.

– Galaxy white peaches and Golden Sweet apricots from Andy’s Orchard in Murray Hill. Look for new varieties of stone fruit every Wednesday at Andy’s stand.

– Sugary-sweet Snow Queen white nectarines and Donut white peaches from Cornelsen Farms in Reedley.
