Tana Yonas takes you on a journey through the radical sounds of postwar Germany, tracing how artists like Can, Kraftwerk, Neu!, Tangerine Dream, Cluster, Harmonia and Amon Düül built a new musical language out of electronics, repetition, improvisation and experimentation. From the counterculture of the Zodiak Free Arts Lab to the hypnotic pulse of motorik and the vast expanses of kosmische music, the show explores a generation reckoning with Germany’s past while imagining entirely new futures. Along the way, we hear how these experiments would echo outward into ambient, punk, synth-pop, techno, hip-hop and beyond.
