Composer Ellen Reid on her Pulitzer Prize winning work ‘p r i s m’

The Pulitzers were announced last night and several Angelenos can now add Pulitzer Prize winner to their bios. Three Los Angeles Times’ reporters won for their investigative work exposing abuse by a gynecologist at USC. Darrin Bell, an LA native, won for editorial cartooning and composer Ellen Reid won in the Pulitzer Prize for Music for her debut opera, ‘p r i s m.’ ‘P r i s m’ is about a woman’s psychological trauma of sexual assault. Reid is having a gangbuster year. She’s the first composer to have a world premiere with all four of LA’s biggest classical music institutions: The Los Angeles Philharmonic, L.A. Master Chorale, L.A. Chamber Orchestra and L.A. Opera.
