Pulse was a place of refuge for the LGBTQ community in Orlando. All over the country, gay bars and nightclubs serve as sanctuaries for a lot of people, including Dave Cullen, who is an expert on mass shootings. Every time another tragic incident like what happened at Pulse happens, his inbox is flooded with interview requests; but when things finally settle down for him, he’ll go to his place of refuge. As a gay man, that means a gay bar.
