This week nearly 34,000 teachers in the LA Unified School District walked off the job, striking for smaller class sizes, more resources and better pay. It’s the first teacher’s strike in LA in 30 years. 80% of students in LAUSD qualify for free or reduced school meal programs, relying on school for daily nutrition. Around the county, groups are stepping up to feed students and teachers during the strike. Pamela Sanders is coordinating one such effort at Ninth Street Elementary School near downtown.
