Simon Doonan Says You'll Only See Conventional Gowns at the Oscars 10 MIN, 22 SEC

The Oscars are this Sunday. And you can expect the usual breathless media coverage of the red carpet arrivals. But just how thrilling will they be? Not very, says Simon Doonan, who cautions that we shouldn't expect any fashion surprises like Bjork showing up in a swan outfit (2001, designed by Marjan Pejoski) or Cher in a diaphanous Bob Mackie outfit (1986), as in yesteryear's Academy Awards.

Design and Architecture Film Festival 8 MIN, 26 SEC
Architecture and design generally play a supporting role at the movies, providing backdrop, characterization and mood for the story and characters.  
 
Sometimes however, they taking a starring role, in films where the story is the design and architecture and the love, hope and strife that goes into creating objects and buildings. 30 such films will be featured in the Architecture and Design Film Festival, running March 12-16 at the Los Angeles Theatre Center in downtown Los Angeles.
