What’s in a street name? LA’s forgotten Calle de los Negros

In October 1871, a mob of hundreds of white Angelenos murdered 19 innocent Chinese residents of what was then known as Calle de los Negros. The city didn’t mark the massacre, fearing it would hurt tourism and business, thus sweeping history under the welcome mat. But this Thursday, the city will announce the design of a memorial to the massacre’s victims.
