Nearly 2,400 fans descended on the Legendary Park Plaza this Saturday for an unprecedented KCRW event – this was the first time all of our DJs have gathered in one place, on one night, to spin tunes as a benefit for the station. Most of all, it was just a HUGE dance party and everyone at the sold out event seemed incredibly happy to be there. Every time I ran into one of our DJs throughout the night, they were all grins and good vibes.
Before the doors opened, we gathered all the DJs for a group photo. Let me tell you, getting this group in one place is NOT easy but they made it and the photo on the stairs of the legendary Park Plaza marked what was sure to be a successful evening.

Every single set in the four-themed rooms was a highlight, however there were some special moments. Henry Rollins commanded the outside lounge – playing everything from AC/DC to The Ramones – in his first event as a KCRW DJ. Jeremy Sole was joined by live musicians, including trumpeter Todd Simon, taking his set to another level. Eric J Lawrence sported a track suit. Anthony Valadez closed out the steamy Voodoo Lounge before heading straight to the station to start his 3am radio show. And there was a group of at least a hundred people waiting to get into the Dub House Disco Ballroom when KCRW Music Director Jason Bentley was heading to the turntables. Even the Kogi Korean taco truck had fans lined up in the back throughout the night.
It truly was a celebration of our talented music department and the fans that make it all possible.
Skateboard legend Tony Alva checked in at the back and told us that the Park Plaza housed a lot of crazy parties in the ‘80s. Before that, the hotel played host to some of the most Hollywood elite and has been used in a variety of motion pictures, television series and commercials. Not only did KCRW make its mark on the historical venue this weekend but the success of the event pretty much guaranteed that there will be another dance party in the future…stay tuned.
