KCRW at SXSW 2010

The SXSW Music Conference is an annual event showcasing over a thousand bands from across the globe on 80 stages throughout Austin, TX. It is an exciting and exhilarating week of music and KCRW will be there hosting a slew of events featuring bands we love. Music Director Jason Bentley will broadcast Morning Becomes Eclectic live from the scene on Thursday, March 18 and Friday, March 19. Also, Chris Douridas will be airing a special live set from Rogue Wave on Saturday, March 20. Whether or not you are in Austin, you can be in on the action!

Miike Snow
Sweden has been sprouting many imaginative musicians lately and Miike Snow is the cream that’s rising to the top. Their self-titled debut is chock full of good songs making. They made their radio debut here on KCRW

Fitz and the Tantrums
Fun and funky soul music from Fitz & The Tantrums makes breaking up sound good! The LA band delivers a catchy set of songs for Morning Becomes Eclectic listeners.
Lissie
We first met Lissie at KCRW in 2007, when she came in to sing backup for Jesca Hoop. She's opened for Ray LaMontagne and has recently released a terrific debut EP. Hear the songs from the EP live on Morning Becomes Eclectic

Hosted at the Galaxy Room Backyard, formerly known as the Radio Room. Anyone with a festival badge or wristband is welcome. 508 E 6th St.
8pm - Soko
French siren SoKo made a splash when "I'll Kill Her" became an Internet sensation. Now based in LA, she's been in the studio working on new songs and we're looking forward to a preview. Check out this track by Soko, "Worry For Me".
9pm - Choir of Young Believers
Denmark's Choir of Young Believers is the brainchild of Jannis Noya Makrigiannis, performing his orchestral pop with a cast of supporting players and marked by magisterial melodies and a healthy dose of reverb. Listen to "Action/Reaction".
10pm - Fanfarlo
London-based indie pop band Fanfarlo put on an exceptional and fervent live show. Their lush orchestration includes trumpet, violin, mandolin and beautiful melodies. They made their US radio debut on KCRW. Listen to "Harold T. Wilkins".
11pm - Ozomatli
KCRW has been a longtime supporter of Ozomatli. Their music - a notorious urban-Latino-and-beyond collision of hip hop, funk, salsa, dancehall and more - takes you around the world by taking you around L.A. Check out "It's Only Paper"
Midnight - Fitz and the Tantrums
Fitz & The Tantrums' fun and funky soul music makes breaking up sound good. Fitz commands the stage with a soulful voice, infectious songs and an all-star band just daring you not to dance. Check out "Breakin' the Chains"
1am - Miike Snow
Miike Snow appeared out of nowhere with one of the best albums of 09. Their combination of studio mastery, led by production duo Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg, and perfect songwriting has created a buzz. Listen to "Sylvia"

The Middle East are a musical collective based in Queensland, Australia. They won our hearts with their gentle harmonies and intricate arrangements and will be making their U.S. debut during SXSW.

UK indie trio The xx had a huge year in 2009 with the release of their critically-acclaimed debut album. Their seductive, R&B and New Wave-influenced songs with duel lead vocals caused quiet a stir and we can't wait to hear them live.

Lissie is from along the banks of the Mississippi, Rock Island, Illinois but is now based on the West Coast. Her debut solo EP, Why You Runnin,’ was released late 09, and has been earning the singer high praise. Listen to "Little Lovin".

2pm - Rogue Wave
