Last week in Sacramento, three former employees of Duke Energy told a Senate committee the company manipulated production to drive up prices during last year's energy crisis. Although Duke denied the charges, today in Washington, 100 lawyers began negotiating California's claim of 9 billion dollars in overcharges. With summer, and perhaps rolling blackouts, just around the corner, we take another look at California's energy crisis with the governor's energy czar, an agent of Duke Energy, and an expert who's criticized both sides.
  • Newsmaker: Screen Actors Negotiations - In May, the Writers Guild finalized contracts with motion picture and TV producers. It was assumed that screen actors would follow close behind, but serious bargaining didn't begin until last weekend. Dade Hayes, senior editor at Variety, says the guild's naming of a new executive director lends negotiations an impressive show of strength.
