La Luz del Mundo church has come under scrutiny after its leader, Naason Joaquin Garciawas, arrested last week on multiple charges of sex abuse. Garciawas is currently sitting in an LA County jail awaiting trial. His bond was set at $50 million. La Luz del Mundo was founded in the 1920s in Mexico, and now claims to have more than 5 million followers. Much of its growth coming from churches in the US.
