Young Creators Project spotlight: Madam Bombs

Each day this week, we’re spotlighting the homegrown budding talent sourced via KCRW’s Young Creators Project, a community arts mentorship platform celebrating the creative work of SoCal residents under 21.

Shame on anyone who ever said, “Yeah, you’re pretty good… for girls.” Claire FitzGerald, 16, Marlowe Shachory, 17, and Samara Ellis, 17 are here to put them in their place as the dynamic Simi Valley punk trio Madam Bombs. They kick off the next wave of Riot Grrrls on their song “Get Me Out,” a ripper about unapologetically being yourself. Expect shades of Bikini Kill and the Runaways along with face-melting drums and hook-laden lyrics that bring girls to the front of the mosh pit, and keep them there.

The group has been playing raucous shows together for over two years, but their favorite gig was a prom in Santa Paula last May for teens who missed their proms due to COVID. Madam Bombs underwent a lineup change earlier this year that’s seen the trio explore a shift in style as they’ve begun writing more songs, meshing their varied tastes into “kind of an alternative rock.”

The band joined MBE’s Anthony Valadez to talk their varied musical tastes, playing live, and female empowerment.
