featuring Evan Kleiman, host of KCRW's Good Food & special guests!
Special Guest Just Added: Pulitzer Prize winner Jonathan Gold!
The best food in the world often comes from the street. On May 1, bring your curiosity and your appetite to The Broad Stage in Santa Monica. You'll discover how street food evolved into the food truck craze now sweeping the country, and how global street food inspires local cuisine. Then step outside for world music grooves and tastes of six of L.A.'s best global cuisine food trucks, hand picked by KCRW's Good Food culinary host, Evan Kleiman. There'll be raffles and prizes, too!
Your ticket includes food truck tastings after the show!
KCRW's Good Food host Evan Kleiman guides the discussion with Pulitzer Prize winner Jonathan Gold, chef Jet Tila, OC Weekly's Gustavo Arellano, and food writers from Malaysia and Mexico City who will join us via Skype to share what's cooking on the streets where they live.
Sample the global tastes of hand-picked gourmet food trucks Mariscos Jalisco, Let's Be Frank, India Jones, Piaggio Gourmet on Wheelsand the Nom Nom Truck, Crepe’n Around, alongside the warm, organic Latin/African grooves of the Masanga Marimba Ensemble.
India Jones Chow Truck is “authentic-as-it-gets” gourmet Indian street food, influenced prominently by Punjabi cuisine. With roots in Jaipur, India chef Sumant Pardal has been in the restaurant business for over 30 years.
Let’s Be Frank serves their “hot dogs gone good” from carts and trucks throughout San Francisco and L.A. Topped with homemade pickles and onions, their “Frank Dog” is made from 100% grass-fed beef from local producers with no fillers, added hormones, anti-biotics or junk.
Nom Nom Truck is an all female-owned food truck (owners Misa Chien and Jen Green) that serves “Banh Mi”, or Vietnamese Sandwiches, and other Vietnamese-inspired dishes to West Los Angeles and the greater Los Angeles area. Jen Green, half-Vietnamese, uses her family's secret traditional recipes for Nom Nom's famous Banh Mi sandwiches.
Piaggio Gourmet on Wheels brings Argentine cuisine to the streets of Los Angeles. Chef Piaggio thrives in fusing his Argentine roots with the street food culture of California, and has been making his signature Argentine empanadas for almost 30 years using a recipe from a remote little town in the middle of the vast pampas.
Crepe’n Around’s gourmet crepe truck is run by sisters Eileen and Joann DeLeoz, who fell in love with crepes while visiting the Eiffel Tower in 2006. Follow their truck “Crepe’n Around” Los Angeles for delicious, sweet & savory classic French crepes with Americanized fillings that everyone can enjoy!
