‘The whole point of failure is to learn’: David Wilcox on pivoting to pizza

David Wilcox was $150,000 in debt two years ago with his restaurant, Journeyman in Atwater Village. Wilcox decided to shut that down, and in the same space, he opened Hail Mary Pizza .

David Wilcox was $150,000 in debt two years ago with his restaurant, Journeyman in Atwater Village. Wilcox decided to shut that down, and in the same space, he opened Hail Mary Pizza. He says tossing pies has been fortuitous during the pandemic, as pizza has always relied on takeout and delivery. The restaurant forgoes delivery apps to avoid excessive fees and it uses staff as drivers. It’s also setting up a profit-sharing program for employees.
