Cuts to Food Stamps
Today nearly 48 million Americans are on food stamps, up from 26 million in 2007. To put those numbers in perspective, that means that 15% of the population - almost 1 in 6 Americans - participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program more commonly referred to as food stamps.

To put those numbers in perspective, that means that 15% of the population - almost 1 in 6 Americans - participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program more commonly referred to as food stamps. But last week, SNAP's budget was drastically cut by automatic reductions of $5 billion. Lisa Davis is the Senior Vice President for Government Relations at Feeding America, an organization that runs a number of food banks across the country. In her estimation, the recent cuts will translate to one point nine billion lost meals in 2014. KCRW’s Warren Olney discusses the issue with Arthur Delaney of the Huffington Post.
