    , a novel that explores the life of a carnivorous boy obsessed with meat. In some ways it's reminiscent of Upton Sinclair's

    The Jungle in its commentary on meat consumption, industry and corruption. Mo Yan has written about food in many of his other works as well, including

    Red Sorghum,

    The Garlic Ballads, and

    The Republic of Wine.
