Retiring to the restaurant biz

Hosted by

On Saturday, a giant sweet potato float will roll through the streets of Downtown Anaheim for the 36th annual Orange County Black History Parade. Gretchen Shoemaker will be on the float. Two years ago, she opened her first restaurant, Georgia's at the ripe old age of 74.

Shoemaker tells "Good Food" why she decided to retire to the restaurant business as a septuagenarian and about the classics on the soul food menu at Georgia's, some of which have recipes that go back to Civil War times. She's keeping her recipes on lock-down but there are some pictures of the Cajun coleslaw, fried chicken and peach cobbler served at Georgia's on the Good Food blog.
